Govt to reduce drink drive limit again

You see how this works now? The state imposes some arbitrary rule and once people are conditioned into accepting, they tighten the screws, slowing boiling the frog.

Drivers could be prosecuted after drinking less than a pint of beer or a glass of wine under a shake-up of drink-drive laws.

Transport Secretary Lord Adonis expects an official review of the law to recommend cutting the legal limit from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood to 50mg, as on much of the Continent.

The Government believes this would prevent up to 65 deaths and 230 serious injuries a year. Lord Adonis said there was 'a strong case' for a lower limit.

Firstly, fuck the ‘Continent’, who cares what they do. Secondly, let’s look at some numbers.

430 people died from drink-driving in 2009 - (this should be irresponsible driving, alcohol is not responsible as inanimate objects have no responsibility).

There are approximately 32 million cars in Britain. – Let’s see, supposing that people use their cars on average, three times a week. We have (32,000,000 * 3) * 52 weeks = journeys in Britain per year.

That equals 4,992,000,000 journeys a year. We can say between 4 and 5 billion trips then.

Total casualties - deaths, serious injuries and slight injuries - from drink-drive accidents fell seven per cent to 13,020 which is the lowest figure ever.

Total casualties make up 0.0002% of all road journeys. Why on earth would the bastard state be so enthusiastic about this…

At present, anyone caught drink-driving faces a minimum ban of 12 months and a £5,000 fine.

I think this is just another example of another quango trying to make itself useful. There are still odd things about this article however.

The Government believes this would prevent up to 65 deaths and 230 serious injuries a year. Lord Adonis said there was 'a strong case' for a lower limit….

…Experts say a lower limit would save the economy £120million a year by reducing medical costs and lost working time.

How does that work? The NHS kills more people a year than that.
